Hero and Halcyon Release Three Hold the Strings
Hero and Halcyon return today with Three Hold the Strings, a complete reworking of material originally released as Strings Attached.
Rather than simply revisit the earlier record, the band approached the songs from a different perspective. Hero, who carried the vocals on the original album, steps away from the microphone this time around. In his place, Halcyon Vesper, Kaethe, and Xylene take over the vocal front line, trading lead duties throughout the record and rebuilding the songs around tightly layered three-part harmonies.
The change gives the material a noticeably different identity. Songs that were originally built around a single voice now move between three distinct performances, with each vocalist bringing a different character to the material while still functioning as part of a unified record.
Musically, Three Hold the Strings also pushes the arrangements further into the band's current sound, drawing heavily from 1990s California ska-punk and melodic punk while retaining the heavier guitar work and more elaborate song structures that shaped the original compositions.
The result is not intended as a remaster or conventional reissue of Strings Attached. It is a new interpretation of the same underlying songs—performed from inside a different version of the band and rebuilt around a vocal arrangement that did not exist on the original release.
